The Haudenosaunee Nationals Split on Day One of Women’s Super Sixes 

The Haudenosaunee Women went 1-1 on day one of the World Lacrosse Super Sixes at the Oshawa Civic Centre in Ontario. The Nationals defeated Germany 16-6 in game one and dropped a close one 11-8 to Canada (white) in game two. Sierra Cockerille paced the offense with six goals and two assists on the day. Also for the Nationals, Allyson Trice added four goals, Lois Garlow three goals and two assists, and Paisley Cook three goals and an assist for the day. Paige Crandall backstopped a solid defense in net. There are no live stats at the event, so we do not know exactly how many saves Crandall finished with today. But…it was plenty.

Game One - Haudenosaunee 16, Germany 6

Germany scored first 90-seconds into the game before Kimaura Schindler buried over the top of the goalie to tie it at 1-1 three minutes into the opening quarter. Bean Minerd followed two minutes later to give Haudenosaunee the 2-1 lead. Germany responded on a Jenney Markey goal with 1:43 remaining to make it 2-2 headed to the second quarter.

The second quarter was all Nationals as they used a 4-0 run to take over the game. A Lois Garlow step down from deep put Haudenosaunee on top for good at 3-2 just 30-seconds into the quarter. Garlow scored again two minutes later, this time on the door step to push the lead to 4-2. Paisley Cook buried her first of the weekend after a caused turnover at midfield and a pass from Jordan Coulon with 2:15 remaining. Tallis Tarbell went underhand to bury the bouncer and give Haudenosaunee the 6-2 lead headed to halftime. 

Another Haudenosaunee run, this time 6-1, would put the game away in the third behind the combination of Sierra Cockerille and Allyson Trice. Trice kept the Nationals rolling to start the third as she cut middle and took a pass from Jalyn Jimerson 14-seconds into the second half. Germany responded on a Devon Ortman goal that trickled in to cut the lead to 7-3 with 6:16 remaining. Sierra Cockerille scored her second of the game with 5:36 left on a pass from Lois Garlow. Trice followed two minutes later on an assist from Cockerille to extend the lead to 9-3. Sierra then scored unassisted on a step down with 2:03 left in the third quarter. Lois Garlow finished the hat trick on a dime from Jalyn Jimerson and Trice finished her hat trick on a breakaway with 8-seconds left to make it 12-5 headed to the fourth.

Sierra Cockerille buried her hat trick driving middle two-minutes into the fourth. Germany answered 90-seconds later to make it 13-6 with 4:35 to go. A nice Mia Mitchell wrap-around at 4:17 followed by Trice’s team-leading fourth goal of the game on a pass from Jordan Coulon extended the Haudenosaunee lead to 15-6 with 2:38 remaining. Kimaura Schindler scored the last goal of the game to bookend the Nationals 16-6 victory. 

Game Two - Haudenosaunee 8, Canada 11

The first quarter was tight as both defenses and goalies held up. Canada’s Brooklyn Walker-Welch scored the lone goal of the quarter streaking out with 3:50 left in the first to give Canada the 1-0 lead headed to the second.

Haudenosaunee answered early in the second as Paisley Cook buried one on the doorstep on a pass from Tallis Tarbell. Sierra Cockerille sniped a step down unassisted to give the Nationals a 2-1 lead at 5:34 of the second. Canada responded on goals from Reese Whiteman and Walker-Welch to regain the lead at 3-2 4:10 left in the half. Paisley Cook responded off the Lois Garlow pass to score near the net for the 3-3 tie. Canada scored two straight on another goal from Walker-Welch followed by Michela Paterso with 2:17 left in the half. The Nationals hung tough on a goal from Jalyn Jimerson driving to the crease with 90-seconds left. Sierra Cockerille scored her second of the game on a post up and turnaround to tie the game 5-5 with 22-seconds to go in the half.

Canada’s Kylea Dobson scored just over 4-minutes into the third to give Canada the lead again.Tallis Tarbell scored her lone goal of game two cutting through the middle and taking a pass from Jordan Coulon to tie the game back up at 6-6 with 3:53 left in the third. Mia Mitchell regained the lead a minute later for the Nationals as she cut middle and took a pass from Timmia Bomberry to make it 7-6 Haudenosaunee. Canada would respond with a 4-0 run to take control of the game. Emma Torkoff scored unassisted followed by Reese Whiteman’s go ahead goal at the buzzer to send Canada to the final frame with the 8-7 lead.

The fourth quarter was tight early until Whiteman scored again with 5:03 remaining. Brenna Shanahan scored to push the Canada lead to 10-7 with just under 4-minutes left in the game. Cockerille answered with her third of the game to cut the lead to 10-8 with two minutes to go. But, Walker-Welch scored her fourth of the game for Canada to give them the 11-8 victory.
